Imogen Heap came to town almost 2weeks ago – and she did so in a fashion for a big musician, I rarely see…She came out to introduce each opening set – in her street clothes, pre hair/makeup…as herself. There is something there, that really sets her apart.
On top of that, she brought out a local music ensemble group as the lead off set – Sintonía, followed by her billed opener, Geese, and then one of her accompanying musicians, gave the final lead in set to hers, Ben Christophers…and of course then it was Imogen herself, in all of her lanky, prancing, crazy haired madness…incuding in much of her set, supporting instrumentation, etc from the openers on stage again. All this to a packed theatre at the Paramount…loved this show…

She’s so pretty and adorable – she was always smiling in between songs – and the audience responded…it was a unique connection she had to the crowd and they to her…
This was also the swan song for my little rebel last week – which has worked tirelessly for me taking pictures where it was consistently outclassed by photographers around us…I think we did some pretty good work together…
So cheers…I raise my glass to my palm sized work horse…and to Ms Corinne Bailey Rae…who was simply gorgeous.

Wilco visited the Paramount Theatre to a full house Wednesday, sold out standing room only crowd…
It was fun, it was crowded, even in a full up photo pit amongst 9 or so photogs…it was a bit mad – I lost my photo pass before they even came on…thankfully I am acquainted with the security at the Paramont/Moore and they saw my pass at the top of the night – note always make friends w/security! – I was a bit off kilter all night…but it is what it is, and the music was superior as you might expect from this group of pure musicians…

The Deck the Hall Ball, rather, the yearly 107.7 The End (KNDD) alternative Seattle music station mainstay big ass concert come holiday extravaganza…this year, it was a great show.
Visual Highlights were probably provided by all the of the crowd interaction between the two bands, Phoenix, and 30 Seconds to Mars, via their leads…
The latter, seems to be a bit, how shall I say, much critisized, likely due to their overly accessible music, and movie star lead, Jared Leto. Here’s my take on that… The music, was good…it wasn’t edgy, and it wasn’t classic, but it was pleasant…and well, accessible will be successful, if not fully appreciated by the more than a bit critical musical ears, especially in Seattle…And the “rock star” moves, playing and bantering to the crowd, as well, was much poo-poo’d by several bloggers and tweets… Well as a photographer, the lens loved the playing to the crowd, and as evidenced in the images, the crowd loved it right back…I guess the people in front were less picky about the depth of the tunes? Regardless, Leto put it all out there, he is very good looking and mugged for the more than full photo pit and masses of fans… Some said, well, he is just “acting” the rock star…Note – he is not that good of an actor! lol. I think he may have found his true calling on stage. His definitely movie star good looks as well as his ease and accessiblity in his performance are pretty darned compelling. Like his music, or not… It did not make my ears bleed, so for me, it was all good…because, well as long as you bring me the rock star in the images, I am a fan! Oh and his eyes are so blue, they glow, even from far away~
Musically, Metric and Phoenix were my faves. Image wise, Leto aside, my fave shots were of the redhead that fronted the local opener of the show, Visqueen. Curly red flying hair…gorgeous.
Muse, the headliners delivered the close of the show that had been building in the final 5th hour. For those that left half way through the show…I still stand perplexed. But to each their own. I am an observer, and if I see the crowd responding, that will always influence how I remember a show…There is an engergy that flows between the stage and crowd…if it’s there, I am always impressed, whether or not, the tunes will ever flow through my own headphones…

The name needs no further creative intro…
They were the first opener for the Sounds ahead of Semi Precious Weapons at the Showbox here in Seattle this past October 27th…
A quirky fun group, full of humor and energy…and having the absolute best time on stage.
I shot both the opening sets(didn’t shoot the Sounds – but probably should have – hindsight!) and treated them both with a high contrast black and white in post…
I just got to the Foxy set last night, and really am liking what I somehow got despite difficult light…they are fun, striking and charismatic…
Have a look…

Mudhoney tomorrow night…and going to Kiss – just for fun, not shooting, on Sunday…then off to Philly for the holiday…

…Simple, stark, a bit grainy, dramatic…
I think this describes her music, the show, and the final images, processed here to black & white…
I don’t do a pure b/w process much these days…but it seemed more than called for, to illustrate Bat for Lashes…a literal lack of light…lot’s of grain…at first I thought, the images were trash…
Don’t get me wrong, the show was interesting, packed, sweaty, and pushed to the max…but the images…just weren’t wow, on initial review…
Then, a bug in the ear, re: black and white treatment, and I am like, you think? I try not to use black and white as a crutch…but sometimes, it’s just the right thing…

The Lips…The Flaming Lips…wow…who knew????
LOL…well plenty of folks did…I had never seen them live, so I was, to put it mildly, taken a bit by surprise by the sheer “spectacle”…not to mention the the excess energy of their mosh pit–again, who knew???
Ok, let’s be honest, the concept of the name, “The Flaming Lips”, to most people is blatantly obvious…but honestly, and I almost am embarassed to admit it…I never thought about it…but the opening sequence of images on their massive light screen back drop left NOTHING to the imagination, with the glowing, ie “flaming” hotspot between a legs splayed female form……yes, those “lips”, lmao…I guess you just have to hit me over the head with such…and well, they did…not to mention the massive ball of madness that Wayne (lead) enters the opening fray via…………
The “spectacular” that was The Lips show, was “Flaming” as it were…lol…well maybe excess is a better description…streamers and confetti…and balloon/balls everywhere…
…the entire show…massive light backdrop…
…there was not a let up in the entire evening…not even the more somber version of Taps (yes, the funeral anthem) played in tribute to still passing soldiers…….the spectacular, was unending…The Lips seem a neverending band of bang on energy…perhaps despite the latter day, hippie vibe…or maybe because of it?
The herbal scent was heavy…and much commented on from the stage as well…the fog floating throught the air was not just from machines……just saying…
Altogether a glorious perfect night at the gorgeous Marymoor Park Amphitheatre…with…THE FLAMING LIPS…

Most notable, perhaps…were the fans…dedicated to the point of face painting and costumes…
And totally rapt:
Highly recommend joining the madness and catching this tour if it hits your town…
