2010, year in review (concert photography blog)

2010 – it’s been, and interesting year (review the 2009 shots here).  Some ups and downs, this year in my live music concert photography pursuits.  Busy times, and time off.  It’s sometimes challenging balancing this passion with the day to day grind of real life – as in spreadsheets and whatnot…

Overall, I continued to shoot shows… I even shot Bumbershoot this year – you’ll see several shots from this in the review set:)

I upgraded equipment around April – from my trusty Rebel to my 5dmkII & 7d combo, along with the 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8 IS L, 50 1.4 – keeping my trusty 100 2.0 – and more recently (October) adding the 15mm 2.8 fisheye.  So lot’s of new toys to learn to use – and hopefully get more good shots.

Imogen Heap

Imogen Heap performing at the Paramount Theatre - June 2010

There were a handful of notable shows where the images and getting of images, was just so fun – that I can barely choose what my favorite frames were – I just loved the entire sets ! Those were probably June’s – Imogen Heap show (pictured at right), July’s “Sextreme Ball“, September’s – Train show, obviously- September’s – Bumbershoot, and October’s – Never Shout Never gig.  As well, I finally got to see one of my faves from the Rock Star days – Ryan Star – who managed to visit Seattle, not once, but twice(!) in one week in September 2010 – Ryan’s 11:59 is doing well, and it was so great to see him live again – hadn’t seen him perform since 2006.

I also tried my hand at capturing more crowd – some successful, sometimes less so… Continue reading

Kate Nash hails into Seattle via the Uk – with her fiery hair and perfectly coiffed bangs – she brought her equally perfect tunes to the Showbox.

New Blog – Concert Photography: Never Shout Never at the Showbox Market

Christofer Drew Ingle – known as the performer “Never Shout Never” (the band is “The Shout”) – came into town last week to a sold out(and lined up around the corner) throng of teeny bopping fans – yes, the average age was like, oh, 13? I was easily the oldest non parent there!

Was also the first go round with new 15mm 2.8 fisheye lens – so all in all a fun night!

Train kicks it off live in Seattle! (concert photography blog)

TRAIN by Elisa Sherman | photosbyelisa.comTrain…the band…

Last Tuesday, the night before I escaped for a week, I got to see, and photograph the band as they kick off their tour, supporting their new CD – Save Me San Francisco…Sounded great, looked great…was a great shoot. You never would have known, had they not told us, how sick Pat was…he was like, we cancelled last shows, and they ended up cancelling the next night in PDX, but he was like, we couldn’t cancel at home…as he harks partially from here…there were tons of local fans…everyone was super excited, most up front in the pit area had VIP passes that would earn them a Meet and Greet post show …the fans were really excited, and I can see why. There is something inherently real and authentic about this band.

Anywho, their new CD drops this week…pick it up…

A selection of the images are on Spotlight on LiveDaily.com –

New Blog – Concert Photography: Bumbershoot 2010

Bumbershoot – 3 days of music madness and more…

Yes, it has taken me a month and a half to post a blog on the fest…I am slow………….lol.

Highlights included special sessions via The End & KEXP, some crazy crowds at the State Farm stage, and some spectacular performances. Downside – yes, I cracked the lcd cover on my 5dmk2 – oops! But alas, it was, this labor day weekend – quite an experience. Possibly the biggest hightlight, non photographically – a fellow(and much younger) photog, thinking I was like 23-24! Bwahah! My creaky 37yo self, thinks I can push that botox appt out a few more years! (I kid – maybe;)

Anywho – finally have a full set edited for my personal archive. Assignment photos have been posted on SoundSpike – if you haven’t checked them out, give a look –
