Train kicks it off live in Seattle!

TRAIN by Elisa Sherman | photosbyelisa.comTrain…the band…

Last Tuesday, the night before I escaped for a week, I got to see, and photograph the band as they kick off their tour, supporting their new CD – Save Me San Francisco…Sounded great, looked great…was a great shoot. You never would have known, had they not told us, how sick Pat was…he was like, we cancelled last shows, and they ended up cancelling the next night in PDX, but he was like, we couldn’t cancel at home…as he harks partially from here…there were tons of local fans…everyone was super excited, most up front in the pit area had VIP passes that would earn them a Meet and Greet post show …the fans were really excited, and I can see why. There is something inherently real and authentic about this band.

Anywho, their new CD drops this week…pick it up…

A selection of the images are on Spotlight on LiveDaily.com –

Monsters of Folk rock, or rather sway the Paramount…

They blew into town…like the reigning kings of the “it” music genre…the “Monsters of Folk” as they have branded themselves – Conor Oberst, Jim James, M. Ward, and Mike Mogis… They filled the Paramount Theatre, October 15th with their unique and powerfully heart felt musical stylings, illustrated by the vibrant colors you see here…it was a pleasure to shoot…amongst a bevvy of other Seattle shooters…great show…

Photos are on LiveDaily.com here accompanying the review of the MoF LA show – http://livedaily.com/news/monsters-of-folk-tickets-and-tour-dates-live-review-monsters-of-folk-in-los-angeles-ca-20435.html

Voices Carry…Aimee Mann to the Moore

Aimee Mann…with Nick Lowe…double bill, but Nick was more the 50 min set opener…

Very fun, his set…my favorite part was the song that referenced “Rick Astley” who had a hit that was kind of “ghastly” lmao…the crowd, a bunch of latter day gen Xers, etc…totally got the reference.

Perhaps the oddest thing about the show this night, was the seated crowd. All the way up to the stage…seated the entire time, less the standing ovation for the end of Nick’s set, and I am sure later for Aimee’s headlining set…not sure, as I am prone to most often, I left after I got my shots of her…

Aimee started off saying she would sing a few songs, I presume off her new CD, Smilers, that she really wanted to sing for us, then she would take requests for the rest of the night…if it hadn’t been a weekday, and I wasn’t so tired, I would have stayed…as is, I have no idea if she did “voices carry”, but that is the one song from my youth, I most remember her for…as she led the then ‘Til Tuesday in this new wave 80’s hit…

One other thing I will say, her hair is now a nice lovely flowing flaxen with slight wave…no longer spikey to all ends as was the new wave stylings! In fact, this night Aimee was even wearing glasses, which wigged me out a little in my pursuit of images…all the photos I had seen of her in my research were sans spectacles…they presented a challenge, but I think I found my way through the looking glass, as it were…

Here are a few of the images from the night…first, a selection on LiveDaily.com (note the BRAND new site design – Kudos to LD!) http://www.livedaily.com/photos/?p=Moore+Theatre%2C+October+7%2C+2009

Sand Surf and The Hills…..

Santa Monica pier by Elisa Sherman | photosbyelisa.comThe Hollywood Hill(s)……lol…

Aside from the musical pics taken from last weekends jaunt into the Holly-hood, I played vacation snapper…

You know it’s LA…even the thin layer of smog, isn’t a turn off… and the surrounding beaches – Venice and Santa Monica, so close, and so gorg…there is a reason why, all the beautiful people want to live there….it’s fun, it’s gorgeous, and it’s sunny!

On landing, headed up to Santa Monica…so pretty…it was so relaxed…and enjoyed a lunchtime raspberry margarita…….yum – and hey, I was on VACATION, lol…and raspberry anything is yummy! And you gotta love anyplace that features a perpetual ferris wheel! And sandy beaches………sigh…
